Waiting Periods
Members joining Generation Health Medical Fund who are not transferring from another medical fund, will be subject to waiting periods as detailed below. Waiting periods mean that you and all your dependants cannot access the following benefits for the periods stated below.
Three months for all benefits meaning that you cannot use your membership card to see your doctor or go into hospital. Should you have to see your doctor or go into hospital during the general waiting period, you will be liable for the payment of the bills. You will be paying your contributions but may not submit claims or visit a Doctor or any other provider of health services and expect reimbursement by Generation Health Medical Fund. These waiting periods apply to all medical aid societies operating in Zimbabwe. After the general 3 month waiting period, the following condition specific waiting periods will apply:-
Six months for:
- Specialist treatment,
- Planned or elective surgery,
- CT scans and MRI scans,
- Spectacles and contact lenses
- Special appliances such as nebulisers, glucometers,
hearing aids, etc.
- Admission or treatment at a hospital which
is not of an emergency nature
Nine
months for :- Maternity benefits
Twelve months for :
- Surgery involving the use of
internal prosthesis
Twenty-four months
for : - Haemodialysis (an expensive
exercise to clean the blood of harmful substances,
which normally takes a long time).
